I had the realization that for this class, I need to study many hours each day. And so I put my notes and power points on the treadmill and run. And run, and run. For many miles, while pounding this info into my brain. So I get to run, and I get to study, and, well, we'll see how the first practical goes, and then the first exam a week later.

I was about to quit, but then I realized that this is MY dream. I want to go to nursing school, and so I'm going to try hard to get there. If it doesn't work out, that's fine, but it won't be for lack of trying. I'm not a quitter.

In the meantime I'm helping the kids with homework, cooking (more and more) vegetarian meals, and drinking a LOT of coffee, playing with playdough, and going to dance parties with our kids :). And coloring, and going to Board meetings (I work a bit for my kids' school). And write homestudy updates. I can do it all! (sort of).

Dance party (after hill concert) with our good friends and all our kids... disco in the ballroom!
Note the glitter on my left shoulder- i think that's from a crying kid with face paint. the marks of motherhood :).
I tried to get my "photographer" Brian to send me a kid dancing pic... they were all hilarious... will upload if I get one :). We live near this little hamlet called Saxapahaw, which is one of my favorite places in the world. the people there revived the village and it's loads of local, organic fun on ever level. We live exactly 7 miles down the road, and get to buy the farmers' food in the general store. Hard to beat that!

Here's my favorite current hymn (by 2 high school kids... I'm in love with them)... happy sunday!

reality bites

I probably use that title more than I think. Reality Bites. Such a catchy little phrase. And movie.

I'm hoping I can keep up the blog at least a little, for you three who still stop by, but, why yes you are correct... reality is hitting HARD, y'all.

Microbiology took work, but it came easily to me. Anatomy and Physiology can't come easily to anyone, unless they already have their PhD in one of those lovely subjects and sit around reading their textbook all day while eating plain mashed potatoes and listening to Beethoven. Because they're a bundle of fun.

I wish those people could jump into my brain and do this work for me, but apparently that's called cheating. So I will, I've realized, have to do this work all by myself. You guys. It's SO MUCH MEMORIZATION. More than ever. Ever ever ever. And I have a college degree from a very tough university. THIS IS HARDER.  (having an actual life outside of school might have something to do with that).

But I will be okay. I will be okay. I will be okay. Unless it kills me.

My cumulative final exam is on December 11. I hope to write something on this blog before then... if I don't, you know where to find me.

I'm being dramatic (you knew that already?). I really will try to post life updates. Maybe.

Wish me luck... and send my brain happy, intelligent vibes...

I'm sitting here in my house, alone.
My big kids started school (going well, thank you!),
Zach is out for one last hurrah with Sammy (and buying things to make for dinner... I'll miss his cooking),
and I just finished some work that I needed to send into the agency I work for.
I finished early, and found myself with nothing to do.
This will last another 20 hours, and then...
I'll have stuff to do. Class for me starts tomorrow, and for Zach on Thursday.
I'm in LOVE with being busy. But only after I've marinated in a good, long break. So this school schedule does a family good, I think.
In three years, I'll miss it... but I won't miss the empty bank account ;). It will only be semi-empty. It won't be full, based on the amount of debt we are piling on at the moment. I should go buy a lottery ticket.

I never posted pictures of our trip to Atlanta. Zach and I went to our good friend's wedding. Our Greg. He is like a brother to Zach, and his parents are like family. They see Zach as a son, and they all just mesh so naturally. It's been so great to be a part of their family, truly. Greg married Annalise, a beautiful, smart, wise woman. We barely know her, but Greg loves her, and that's all we need to know. The weekend was splendid, filled with laughter and friends and connection with loved ones we haven't seen in years. Refreshment for our souls.

Sometimes we look decent :)
So now (maybe?) I'm caught up on the blog and our summer adventures. Off we go into the next set. Just got my anatomy/physiology lab book in the mail, so I'm going to geek out for a minute and have a look before getting my kids from school. Wishing you all a wonderful week!

annnnd it's over.

Summer. Gone. poof.
We had SUCH a great summer. We really enjoyed each other and my kids are at the most FUN ages! They had a blast together. Of course they fought and got on my last nerve throughout each day, however the good outweighed the bad. Good times for the win!

Today I have a new 1st grader and a new 3rd grader. It's amazing to me that I'm still 21 and have a 3rd grader. Amazing!

my giant children

oh and by the way, Leah told me she's starting Medical School next week. Her patient starts pre-K in a few weeks.

So the summer's over. I start class next week and, more importantly, so does Zach. here we go again...

beach... 2 weeks late

It's August 6th? What what?
Since coming home we've done a lot of fun hangin' around. With neighbors, with the Duncs, with our pool, with Target (massive amounts of school supplies = depletion of my savings account), with some work (me), with Zach's dental school bff and his wife, with the canoe on the Haw River, with homemade ice cream at Maple View Farms and the Allman fam, with our washer and dryer, with the Olympics. Soaking up the last few days of summer. Best of all, we got to celebrate my sweet baby niece Laela's 1st birthday at a party last night with family and friends... we have had a blast over these last few weeks, and I'm so grateful!

Aaaanyway, if anyone is still reading this blog, HI. How are you? Sorry it's been so boring on the blog-front lately. I'm boring. I'm a boring writer with no need to write about anything controversial ever again for fear of attracting wackos. Loving this peaceful sliver of the universe.

My writing is now boring, but my kids remain cute. evidence from the beach a couple weeks ago, with all photos taken by my very talented photographer sister, Sophie:

My kiddos start school at the end of this week. No joke. I'm trying to fit my running in to train for a 1/2 in November, but other than that, my time has been committed to getting them ready for school (reviewing math, etc) and losing my freaking mind trying to combine school lists and then organize their stuff into correct piles. Not my strength, people, not my strength. But I don't do it now I'll go even more insane, due to that little class called Anatomy and Physiology section 1 starting too soon. Holy crap. More crazy stories and pictures of that wedding weekend coming up soon...
